Application Process for Canadian Job Seekers

  3. Screening & Verification:

    • Undergo a Criminal Record Check.
    • Provide valid identification for verification.
  4. Training:

    • Complete First Aid/CPR Training.
    • Attend MNSS Sitter Training to ensure you are fully prepared for the role.

Application Process for Foreign Nannies and Caregivers

For those applying from outside Canada, please note the following requirements and steps:

  1. Eligibility:

    • Must be prepared to work with children under 18 and individuals with significant medical needs (including seniors and persons with disabilities).
    • Applicants should have completed a minimum of 72 post-secondary units.
    • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a caregiver for children or the elderly is required, unless you have completed a recognized course in the medical or educational field, which may waive the experience requirement.
    • Must provide a contract of employment.
  2. Employer Coordination:

    • MNSS will collaborate with employers to find the ideal nanny or caregiver abroad.
    • Job postings will be listed on major platforms such as Job Bank (Canada & Quebec) and Ca.indeed.com.
  3. Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA):

    • MNSS supports employers in applying for the LMIA.
    • A non-refundable fee of $1,000 is required for this process.
    • Employers must demonstrate a household income exceeding $150,000 in the fiscal year.
  4. Additional Employer Responsibilities:

    • Employers are responsible for covering or sharing transportation costs (airfare) for the incoming nanny or caregiver.
    • Employers must cover initial insurance costs (approximately $300) for the first three months until provincial insurance coverage begins.
    • Employers can decide if the nanny or caregiver will live in their home or independently.
  5. Timeline:

    • The entire hiring process may take between 9 months to 2 years.
